From the Families We Have Worked With

TK

Toh Kee Fong

Johor Bahru — Wholesale Distribution

We came in after years of everyone just managing their own area without much overlap. The roles conversation was more useful than I expected — not because anything dramatic was said, but because it was the first time we had all sat together and talked about it properly. The written summary gave us something to refer back to when things got blurry again.

Skudai — Light Manufacturing

My father was at the stage where he wanted to step back but had not been able to articulate it to us. Cendana Reach gave us the structure to have a conversation we had been avoiding for three years. The continuity outline they produced was practical — not generic — and we have actually followed it. That is probably the highest praise I can give.

Batu Pahat — Retail Hardware

Honest assessment: the first session took a bit of time to get going, partly because we were not used to having someone outside the family facilitate these conversations. Once we settled in, the process worked well. The written summary after the session was cleaner and more specific than I would have managed on my own. I would do it again.

Kluang — Food Supply

We went through the full Operational Transition Roadmap. It took about four months in total, and it was worth every week. The roadmap they produced is now pinned on the wall in the office. More importantly, everyone in the family understands it and has agreed to it — which feels like something we could not have arrived at on our own.

Johor Bahru — Property Management

What stood out to me was that Norizan was genuinely neutral. My father and I have different ideas about timing, and she did not push either of us toward one position. By the end of the session we had found a middle path that neither of us had considered before. The written output captured it accurately.

Muar — Agricultural Trading

We used the Continuity Planning Support. It helped us map out a three-year picture for handing over the day-to-day operations, which was something we had been trying to sketch on our own without success. The process was methodical and the facilitator kept things moving without pushing us to resolve things we were not ready to resolve.

Three Engagements in More Detail

Case Study 01

Johor Bahru Wholesale Business

Family Roles Conversation

Duration: 3 weeks

Challenge

Three siblings were running separate areas of a wholesale business with no written record of who was responsible for what. Overlapping decisions were creating friction, and the founder wanted to step back without a clear picture of who would cover his current responsibilities.

Our Approach

We ran a preparation call with the founder, then a facilitated session with all three siblings and the founder present. The agenda focused on current roles and decision-making, not future ownership. We captured agreements in a summary reviewed and approved by all four participants.

Outcome

A written roles summary agreed by all family members. Overlap areas were identified and ownership assigned. The founder was able to step away from three daily responsibilities within two months of the session. No legal or ownership decisions were needed at this stage.

"We had been talking around this for years. Two hours with the right facilitator got us further than two years of family conversations."

Case Study 02

Skudai Light Manufacturing Firm

Continuity Planning Support

Duration: 6 weeks

Challenge

A second-generation managing director wanted to begin transitioning to her daughter within three years but had no documented plan. Key operational knowledge sat almost entirely with the founder generation and had not been written down or handed over in any structured way.

Our Approach

Preparation interviews with both generations separately, then three facilitated sessions over six weeks. We mapped current responsibilities, identified knowledge-transfer priorities, and worked with the family to build a realistic three-year timeline. The continuity outline went through two review cycles before finalisation.

Outcome

A fifteen-page continuity outline with role mapping, knowledge-transfer priorities, and a year-by-year timeline. At the twelve-month check-in, the daughter had taken on two of the four responsibilities ahead of schedule. The outline continued to be the reference point for family discussions.

"Having something written down that we all agreed to made it much easier to have follow-on conversations. We stopped relitigating the same arguments."

Case Study 03

Kluang Food Supply Business

Operational Transition Roadmap

Duration: 4 months

Challenge

A sixty-three-year-old founder with two daughters both involved in the business wanted to formalise a handover plan covering five years. The family had attempted to draft a plan internally on two previous occasions, but had not been able to complete it due to disagreements about pace and scope of responsibilities.

Our Approach

Separate preparation interviews with all three family members, followed by six facilitated sessions across four months. We built the roadmap section by section, reviewing and revising as the family's understanding of each stage developed. Regulated matters were clearly set aside for the family's lawyer and accountant.

Outcome

A twenty-two-page operational transition roadmap agreed by all three family members, including a five-year phased handover timeline, responsibility documentation for each stage, and scheduled review points. The founder began the first phase of the handover within eight weeks of roadmap finalisation.

"We had tried to write this ourselves twice. Having Cendana Reach hold the process and keep us honest about what we had and had not agreed — that was what made the difference."
